Congratulations to the Olympus Stake #1

2015_Olympus1TeamCongratulations to the Olympus Stake #1 team, they came from behind to beat the Olympus #2 team in a great HCC Men’s Softball Tournament (3 years in a row).  We had 16 teams participate this year and really had some great efforts and a lot of fun by all those who participated.  We had some stakes participate that did not have a stake softball tournament but had some people that wanted to play softball so they put a team together and had a great time.  Stake Sports Specialists, we are not trying to stack teams, but if you have some people that want to play but you have not put together a season, put a team together from players (including non-members) in your stake that may want to play and submit them for play in the tournament next year.  It will be well worth the short time it would take to do that…

-Next, we have our YM/YW Co-ed Soccer Tournament. This will be held during the week of September 29- 30, Oct. 1-2.  Pre-Tournament Meeting will be on September 20.

-Finally for 2015 our Men’s and YM Volleyball Tournament will be scheduled for November 3,4,5,10,11th with Pretournament meeting on Oct. 25.

– Women’s and YW Tournament will be November 14 with the Pre-Tournament Meeting on Nov. 8th.

We wish you all the best for your upcoming season, please let us know how we can be of assistance.

2015 Super Hero Fun Run

Super Hero’s and families all came to run in our “Hero’s of Holladay” 5K fun run last Saturday (Pic’s attached.)  Even though the weather scared a few off, the rain held up until after the race.  Thank you for the announcements and support of the run and for those of you who participated.  We had many  non-members who participated as well as those who saw the signs on the street and those who heard the announcements and came to have some fun!  This is the one event that we hold each year that EVERYONE can participate in.

2015 Dodgeball

This past week, we had one of the most fun in HCC Sports program that I can remember.  We had 3 separate YM Dodgeball tournaments played and completed on the same night: Deacons on Tuesday, Teachers on Wednesdayand Priests on Thursday.  Most games lasted only 2 minutes, with balls flying and YM dodging this was an event that everyone could participate in.  In fact, you would have thought, the big kids would have pushed the others around.  In most cases, exactly the opposite happened.  The smaller YM were able to dodge and avoid getting hit by the bigger ones, and the bigger kids were easier to hit because they were bigger targets.  We had many non-members come and participate and all had a great time.  For this tournament we relaxed the rules and had unbelievable participation. Some stakes thought they would only have a few players and submitted for only one team, as the word got out they ended up with 18 players participating.  Next year we will need to remind everyone that this is an event that everyone loves to participate in and it can be done in one night either on the Stake level or the Coordinating Council Level.  In all, we had over 50 teams participate in Dodgeball, next year we hope to have many more.  I have had several YM asking why their Stake chose not to participate and I don’t have an answer for them?  As Stake Sports Specialists, please let your YM and YW Presidents know early and put on the calendar what we are doing and the dates so they can arrange their schedules.

The Winners:

  • Deacons: Deacons from Canyon Rim and Olympus Stake combined to win a very competitive  tournament.
    Priests Dodgeball 2015
  • Teachers: The Holladay South Stake Teachers held off a tough group from the Hollady Stake to win their division
    .Teachers Dodgeball 2015
  • Priests:  Perhaps the most competitive group, the Priests from East Millcreek Stake defeated Winder West in a hard fought battle!
    Deacons Dodgeball 2015

Thanks again to our hosts and all those who participated in this fun event.
